Mechanical Design Engineer

Elevation Recruitment Group are working with a growing, design-led manufacturing business to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their in-house product development team based in Castleford.

This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically biased design professional who enjoys taking ownership of projects from initial concept through to production. Working within a fast-paced NPI environment, you’ll collaborate closely with internal design teams and external manufacturing partners to deliver innovative, high-quality consumer products to a well-established UK market.

The Role

Reporting to the Design Manager, the Mechanical Design Engineer will play a key role in the full product development lifecycle, supporting the delivery of new and existing product ranges from concept generation through to manufacture.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Producing mechanical designs and 3D models using SolidWorks
• Managing projects through the full design and development lifecycle
• Creating detailed manufacturing drawings, specifications, and BOMs
• Conducting product analysis and validation to ensure performance, safety, and reliability
• Supporting DFM/DFA activities to optimise manufacturability and assembly
• Working closely with suppliers and manufacturing teams to resolve technical challenges
• Ensuring designs comply with relevant engineering standards and customer requirements
• Identifying opportunities for product improvement, cost reduction, and innovation
• Collaborating cross-functionally with design, project, and commercial teams

About You

We’re keen to speak with Mechanical Design Engineers who have experience developing engineered products within a manufacturing environment and who enjoy working within a collaborative product development setting.

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• A degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
• A minimum of 3 years’ experience within a mechanical design engineering role
• Strong SolidWorks CAD experience
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes including injection moulding and CNC machining
• Understanding of DFM/DFA principles and engineering standards
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and suppliers
