Mechanical Design Engineer
Elevation Recruitment Group are working with a growing, design-led manufacturing business to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their in-house product development team based in Castleford.
This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically biased design professional who enjoys taking ownership of projects from initial concept through to production. Working within a fast-paced NPI environment, you’ll collaborate closely with internal design teams and external manufacturing partners to deliver innovative, high-quality consumer products to a well-established UK market.

The RoleReporting to the Design Manager, the Mechanical Design Engineer will play a key role in the full product development lifecycle, supporting the delivery of new and existing product ranges from concept generation through to manufacture.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Producing mechanical designs and 3D models using SolidWorks
- Managing projects through the full design and development lifecycle
- Creating detailed manufacturing drawings, specifications, and BOMs
- Conducting product analysis and validation to ensure performance, safety, and reliability
- Supporting DFM/DFA activities to optimise manufacturability and assembly
- Working closely with suppliers and manufacturing teams to resolve technical challenges
- Ensuring designs comply with relevant engineering standards and customer requirements
- Identifying opportunities for product improvement, cost reduction, and innovation
- Collaborating cross-functionally with design, project, and commercial teams
We’re keen to speak with Mechanical Design Engineers who have experience developing engineered products within a manufacturing environment and who enjoy working within a collaborative product development setting.
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- A degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience within a mechanical design engineering role
- Strong SolidWorks CAD experience
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes including injection moulding and CNC machining
- Understanding of DFM/DFA principles and engineering standards
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and suppliers
